Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati Thakura (1874–1937) was a great Gaudiya Vaishnava acharya, spiritual master, and reformer who played a key role in spreading the teachings of Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu in modern times. Born as Bimala Prasad Datta, he was the son of Srila Bhaktivinoda Thakura, a renowned Vaishnava scholar and preacher.
From an early age, Bhaktisiddhanta showed extraordinary intelligence and devotion. He was a master of Vedic scriptures, astrology, and philosophy, and took a vow of lifelong celibacy to dedicate himself fully to spiritual life. In 1918, he took sannyasa (renounced order) and established the Gaudiya Math, which grew into a powerful movement to revive and spread pure Bhakti-yoga.
He strongly opposed ritualistic caste-based Brahmanism, emphasized preaching over temple rituals, and used printing presses and modern tools to distribute Vaishnava literature. His mission laid the foundation for the global expansion of Krishna consciousness, later continued by his disciple Srila A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada.
Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati Thakura left this world in 1937, but his teachings continue to inspire devotees worldwide.
